Defining Grace
Mark 16:9
When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
How would you like it if every time your name was mentioned the darkest chapter of your life was given as your byline? There were other things Mark could have said to describe Mary Magdalene: She was from the village of Migdal, or Magdala, which was near Jesus’ ministry base, Capernaum. She had followed Jesus for three years and had been present for His crucifixion and burial. But when Mark mentions that Mary Magdalene was the first one to see Jesus after His resurrection, he immediately adds that Jesus had driven seven demons out of her. Mark chose to remind us that the most important thing that we need to know about Mary Magdalene was that Jesus had delivered her from evil and given her freedom from what had possessed her. When Jesus brings freedom to your life it defines you and becomes an unmistakable part of your future. He has done something miraculous for every one of us, and we should be glad to make that an important part of our life story.
THINK ABOUT IT
When you think about the things that define your life and what you want people to know about you, is your relationship with Jesus at the top of the list?
