But Even If He Does Not

But Even If He Does Not …

Daniel 3:16-18 (NIV®)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

These young Hebrew men are slaves in Babylon, and they are walking a hard road. The king builds a statue of himself and demands that everyone worship it. These three refuse to participate in idolatry, and their statement to the king is the very definition of faithfulness. The last part is particularly staggering to me: “But even if he does not. …” They’re standing before the king, being threatened with execution, and they still don’t flinch because they trust in God. If you’re in a difficult season, don’t throw away your confidence in the Lord. You may have been unjustly accused or mistreated. You may have been asked to endure or persevere or overcome. But God is faithful.

THINK ABOUT IT
Settling your heart and mind today regarding your God-response to threats, accusations, or challenging circumstances requiring endurance will help you be ready to honor the Lord at any given point. God will help you.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I do not want to deny You at any time—certainly not to preserve my well-being. Help me trust You, without wavering, no matter the challenge or situation I face. May my life always bring You honor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
