1 Samuel 12:24 (NLT®)
“… fear the LORD and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.”
When I began to sense that God was inviting me into full-time ministry, I
was reluctant. One of the reasons was that I considered Christianity to
be the equivalent of insurance. You didn’t want to go south in the
event that something happened and you left early, but you didn’t want to
get so invested that it kept you from experiencing life. God helped me
through my misconceptions, and I have discovered that serving Him is the
greatest adventure in life. If you are banking your eternity on saying a
little prayer and giving God less effort than you give your profession
or your hobby, you are deceived. To imagine that God will accept second
place in your life is a misreading of Scripture. I’m not suggesting that
you have to pursue ministry as a profession, but I can tell you that I
have spent the intervening years doing everything I can to squeeze the
life out of the notion that Christianity is about being mediocre. Give
God your very best. He certainly deserves it, and He has promised to
reward it.
THINK ABOUT IT
It can take courage to rearrange your priorities for the things of God,
and it will require determination to give God your very best. Know
this—God is faithful, and will reward those who diligently seek Him. You
will never regret the eternal rewards of a life invested in the Kingdom
of God.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to choose first the Kingdom of God. Strengthen
my determination; help me to form new rhythms of life, new habits, and
new ways of thinking—all for Your glory. May I live a life that truly
honors You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
