New Dream & New Future
1 Samuel 1:11 (NIV®)
“LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life.”
Samuel was one of the most significant characters of the Old Testament. But Samuel’s ministry didn’t begin with him; it began with Hannah, his mother. Hannah had not borne her husband any children, and her rival wouldn’t let her forget it. Hannah’s dreams weren’t coming true, and she was brokenhearted. She made this remarkable vow to the Lord, and He fulfilled her heart’s desire. When her son, Samuel, was old enough, she took him to grow up under the care of God’s priest, Eli. From time to time, she would visit and take him the clothes she had made. This had to be a very difficult choice, but Hannah allowed God to give her a new dream for the future. What about us? When life doesn’t go the way we think it should, do we allow disappointment and resentment to lead us away from God? Or do we allow Him to give us a new dream and write us a new future?
THINK ABOUT IT
Have you ever allowed brokenheartedness to become an open door from the Lord toward a new dream and a new future? It takes a change of perspective.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for always having a purpose, with a plan to fulfill it. Help me seek Your perspective at all times, especially amid disappointment and heartbreak. You are the God who cares and also provides. In Jesus’ name, amen.
