An Accurate Indicator
Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV®)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Some people think Christians shouldn’t be interested in money, but the Bible doesn’t say that. Jesus isn’t condemning wealth, but He is reminding us that we should be more concerned about our spiritual bank accounts than our earthly ones. Jesus knew our every earthly resource—every “safe” stock portfolio, every “priceless” collection, every “sure” investment—is subject to devaluing and destruction. Think of the times when stock prices have fallen, collections have burned to ashes, and funds have been embezzled. Jesus knew the only investments that are truly secure and hold eternal value are the ones we make in the Kingdom of God. Most importantly, He reminds us that where we invest our treasure is an accurate indicator of where our hearts are.
THINK ABOUT IT
Where would you rather invest your heart—in an earthly mutual fund or a heavenly storehouse?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, may my life reflect Your power and grace. Direct my steps that I may invest my days in pursuit of You. I choose to yield my will to the authority of my Lord, and serve with faithfulness and enthusiasm. In Jesus’ name, amen.
