Smile or Frown Test

Smile or Frown Test

Colossians 1:10 (NASB®)
Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects.

There are people who have left a lasting impression on you—for good or ill. They might be public figures you have watched from a distance or people you have interacted with on a personal level. I imagine you could quickly give me a list of five people whose names make you smile and five people whose names make you frown. Such is the power of a name and the reputation attached to it. I want my name and my reputation to be such that when God hears it, He smiles. The thought that my attitudes, words, and actions would cause Him to smile or frown is a sobering thought and a good benchmark for my daily choices. The way I speak with my coworkers—would He smile or frown? The websites I surf when I’m alone—would He smile or frown? My attitude toward my spouse at the end of a long day—would He smile or frown? Grading ourselves with the “smile or frown test” is a good way to keep us focused on pleasing the Lord.

THINK ABOUT IT

Let the “smile or frown” test drive your daily choices. You will be on God’s list of people who make Him smile.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are worthy, and I want to be pleasing in Your sight. Grant me understanding to know Your ways, guide me in paths of righteousness, and grant me a revelation of Jesus more real than any temptation placed before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
