Perfectly Finished
John 19:28-30 (NIV®)
Knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Have you ever hired someone to do work for you only to discover later it wasn’t done properly? The worker is gone, and the bill is paid when you realize you’ll have to spend more money to redo work you’ve already paid for. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” His work on our behalf was complete. He had taken our sins upon Himself and received the punishment we deserved. The cross changed everything, and the resurrection meant a new beginning for anyone who would believe in Jesus and call Him Savior and Lord. If you will come to Jesus, He will give you new hope and a new future. His work for us was finished on the cross, and it will never have to be done again.
THINK ABOUT IT
“When Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering, he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified” (Hebrews 4:12-14, NIV®).
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, grant me a revelation of Jesus more real than any obstacle I face. Thank You for His complete sacrificial provision. In His name I am free, and through His blood I am cleansed. By His sacrifice I am righteous, and for His glory I live. In His name, amen.
