Run Toward Jesus
Ephesians 5:11-12 (NLT®)
Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.
You’ve probably heard the old saying, “Give the devil an inch, and he’ll take a mile.” Sadly, I’ve found that saying to be very true. I’ve counseled so many people who thought they could dip their toes into ungodliness without taking a deep dive, and no one would get hurt. But the spiritual forces of evil don’t work that way. When we yield to immorality, greed, or wickedness, we unleash the influence of evil forces not only in our own lives, but in the lives of our family members, the people in our communities, and more. On the other hand, when we yield to the lordship of Jesus and unleash His spiritual authority, that vastly improves, not only our lives, but the lives of our family members, the people in our communities, and more. Every one of us wields spiritual influence through our daily decisions, so I encourage you to run from every kind of evil and darkness and instead, run toward Jesus.
THINK ABOUT IT
One definition of “yield” is “to surrender or submit oneself to another.” James 4:7 counsels us to submit ourselves to God—then, resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. That is a healthy pattern to follow.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, through the blood of Jesus, I am delivered from this present evil age and into the Kingdom of Your Son. So, I choose to say no to ungodliness and yes to godliness. Grant me an understanding heart so I might walk uprightly before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
