Open My Mind, Lord

Open My Mind, Lord
Luke 24:45 (NIV®)
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

There are several instances in the New Testament when someone’s insight was so limited that Jesus pulled back the curtain a little bit and helped them see. In Luke 24:13-35, it is after Jesus’ resurrection, and He is walking along the road to Emmaus with two men who do not recognize Him. They had hoped Jesus was the promised Messiah, and they were struggling to make sense of His crucifixion and the reports of His missing body. So, what did Jesus do? “Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself” (v. 24). Later, He appeared to His disciples and “opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.” The Bible is a great gift to us, so I think a wonderful prayer to pray is: “Lord, open my mind that I can understand the Scriptures.”

THINK ABOUT IT
Opening your mind does not mean striving toward some great prophetic insight. It’s simply asking the Lord to grant greater understanding of His perspective on your life.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, in humility, I turn to You in repentance and ask for Your mercy. Open my heart and mind to Your truth, and awaken me to Your purposes for this generation as never before. Then, help me be a bold and courageous advocate for Your perspective. In Jesus’ name, amen.
