Regaining Confident Excitement
Luke 2:15-18 (NIV®)
“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
When the shepherds heard that a Savior had been born, and then saw Him themselves, they were so excited that they told anyone who would listen. Then, the people who heard the story were amazed, too. I’m not sure why we are so reluctant to tell people about our own encounters with Jesus. I guess we’ve been told that we shouldn’t talk about our faith, or we don’t want to seem too enthusiastic about it. When it comes to our faith, it’s easy to lose our confidence. But I can promise you this: If you will begin to tell people what Jesus has done for you, some of them may laugh or shake their heads. But many of them will be amazed, and being to wonder if Jesus might be the answer they have been looking for.
THINK ABOUT IT
If you realize the confident excitement you had when you first encountered Jesus is waning, ask the Holy Spirit to restore the joy of your salvation and enthusiasm to share your good news with all who will listen.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I give you glory and praise as I lift my heart to You in thanksgiving. I let go of any heaviness so a new sense of excitement might arise, with an awareness that the Spirit of God is moving in the earth. Help my enthusiasm make others hungry for Jesus and the joy in my life. In His name, amen.
