Prayer—Nothing More Powerful
Psalm 34:15 (NIV®)
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry.
People often ask me what they should do to deepen their relationship
with God. My usual response is to begin by cultivating a disciplined and
meaningful prayer life. That answer surprises many folks. They are
expecting me to advise them to do something dramatic, costly, or
involved—like going on a mission trip, or taking a seminary class, or at
least reading a helpful book. I’m all for those things, but there is
nothing you can do that is more powerful than prayer. No activity you
are directed toward will be truly effective if it isn’t undergirded and
wrapped in prayer. Some of us are quick to ask others to pray for us
without being willing to put in the time and effort ourselves. David
says here that the Lord is intimately attuned to His people. His eyes
are on you, and His ears are listening for you.
THINK ABOUT IT
Invest yourself in intentionally strengthening your prayer life. It is a
simple investment that will positively impact every area of your life.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, forgive me for when I have not prayed or lacked the
discipline of prayer. It is humbling that Your eyes and ears are upon
me. Help me to respond to You with the prayers and devotion You deserve
and grow in my knowledge of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
