Pursuit of Holiness

Pursuit of Holiness

Leviticus 20:7 (NLT®)
“Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the LORD your God.”

In Leviticus 17–26, God gives Moses instructions on pursuing holiness. In fact, that section of Leviticus is sometimes called the Holiness Code. God tells the people again and again to consecrate themselves, or set themselves apart, and pursue the holiness that He desires for His people. God never forces holiness on anyone—it is a journey we must choose for ourselves. This is a two-part process. First, we must consecrate ourselves by pulling away from the things of the world. Is this easy? Absolutely not! It will require every bit of determination, and focus, and effort we can muster. It will require humbling ourselves and admitting God’s way is better than our way. Then, we must pursue holiness. Is this easy? Again, absolutely not! We will never achieve perfect holiness in this lifetime; it is a journey that will continue until we draw our last breath. This is the path God calls us to, however, and the path the Holy Spirit empowers us to walk.

THINK ABOUT IT
We must continually grow in holiness and pursue righteousness. Our faith leads us to fight sin and live a life distinct from the world.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, awaken me to Your eternal purposes and grant me understanding so I might live each day pleasing in Your sight. May Your Kingdom be more real to me than the things of time and help me pursue holiness and godliness. Lead me each day in paths of righteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
