Ezekiel 36:24 (NIV®)
“I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.”
Even on the anniversary of the horrific and brazen attacks by Hamas against the Jewish people across the Gazan border, I remain amazed to read Ezekiel’s prophecy and see how it has been fulfilled. Other nations of the world have been created, but none of them reflect God’s gathering of His people to their promised homeland. Today, there is ongoing conflict in Israel because powerful forces don’t want the Jewish people to occupy that little strip of land. But long ago the Lord said to Abram, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever” (Genesis 13:14-15). God’s promise wasn’t contingent upon the opinions of their neighbors. The right of the Jewish people to inhabit that land depends on one thing: their relationship with Almighty God. At times, they have been separated from that land when their relationship with God was too distant. But God’s promise stands. We should pray faithfully for the peace of Jerusalem—not just the absence of conflict, but that there will be a life-changing revelation of Jesus as the Messiah across the nation of Israel and the other nations of the Middle East. Let’s pray for the day when we will hear the people say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
THINK ABOUT IT
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.’ For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity” (Psalm 122:6-9).
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the people of Israel. Give wisdom to the leaders making decisions on their behalf and help them stand together in unity and under the authority of Almighty God to defend the people of that land. May the plans of their enemies be turned back and give the people of Israel victory so the world will see Your power at work and give You glory and honor for it. May our nation not make decisions that oppose Your purposes. Give our leaders wisdom. Lord, I pray that the people of the world will see Your hand at work and know there is a God who watches faithfully over the earth. May the people of Israel have a revelation of Jesus of Nazareth as Christ, Lord, and King. We praise You for it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
