With Gentleness & Respect

With Gentleness & Respect

1 Peter 3:15-17
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

Jesus came to save the lost, and we have an exciting opportunity in front of us. The truth is, we are to win people to the Lord, not make war on them. We need to lose the anger, resentment, bitterness, and hostility—we have good news to share! We know what it is to be trapped in darkness, in bondage to sin and hopelessness, and filled with despair—to have everything, but feel empty. We know what it’s like to chase satisfaction and contentment, and every time we reach the top of the next hill, still feel that persistent emptiness in us. But then we found Jesus. That’s when we discovered a new meaning, a new purpose, a new contentment, a new satisfaction, and a new value to this journey we’re on. We need to share our story!

THINK ABOUT IT
When you are tempted to respond to others with impatience and in ager, stop and ask God to give you a gentleness of heart that will win them to the Lord.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and mercy to me. Forgive me for when I have been reluctant, stubborn, rebellious, selfish, disinterested, or distracted. Grant me listening ears, eyes to see with Your perspective, and a softened heart of compassion to recognize those who need You. May my response then be both respectful and gentle. In Jesus’ name, amen.
