Set Your Sights Beyond
Colossians 3:1-2 (NLT®)
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
At the heart of saying yes to the Spirit of God is setting your mind on the things of God. What do you allow to fill your thoughts? What do you let guide your emotions? What do you dream about? What do you long for? What do you strive to achieve? Do you have the same passion and invest the same hours and dollars in the pursuit of your faith that you do in the pursuit of your career goals and favorite hobbies, or in planning a vacation? I’m not opposed to goals, or hobbies, or vacations, but I don’t want to have greater enthusiasm for those things than I do for my Lord. Set your mind on the things of the Lord—your relationship with Him, the opportunities you have to participate in His Kingdom, and the realities of Heaven. It will begin to shape your behaviors and responses. It will change your life.
THINK ABOUT IT
It is a common practice in life to “save up for the future.” So, flip the script and begin today spending and being spent as an investment for your future beyond this temporal life. That will bring great benefits!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, grant me the realization of how brief this life is “under the sun” compared to forever with You. Help me spend more time thinking about, and investing in, Your eternal Kingdom than I do in the temporal aspects of this world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
