Trusting God With the Rest
Isaiah 55:8 (NIV®)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
When I was a boy, doctors told my mom she had six months to live. We were churchgoers, but we weren’t Christians. My mom prayed a prayer, and God intervened and healed her. I’ve seen God heal people, and I’ve also presided over funerals for people who I thought died too young. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to us. Many years ago someone had died, and I was not happy with God. I said, “Lord, I’m not going to tell anyone else that You are our Healer until You explain to me why one person lives and another doesn’t.” God immediately asked me, “Do you really want that responsibility?” I got quiet and began to understand how arrogant I was, and how much I was acting like Adam and Eve when they wanted to eat from the tree so they could be like God. I said, “God, forgive me for thinking I know best. I will tell people about what You’ve done for them through the cross, and Your grace, and Your mercy—and I’ll trust You with the rest.”
THINK ABOUT IT
Sometimes we have more questions than we have answers. That’s the God-path of trust and faith. He is able to secure our footing.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I ask You to forgive me for ever having thought I knew best. I will tell people about what You’ve done for them through the cross—Your grace, and Your mercy—and I’ll trust You with the rest. In Jesus’ name, amen.
