True Bragging Rights

True Bragging Rights

1 Corinthians 1:28-31 (NIV®)
He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus. … Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Most of us have carefully crafted facades we want the world to see. We frame our degrees and accomplishments and hang them on the wall. We live in nice houses, wear nice clothes, drive nice cars, and send our children to nice schools so they will be able to live in nice houses, wear nice clothes, and drive nice cars. But none of those external things matter in the Kingdom of God. In fact, Paul says God nullifies anything we might take pride in so all we have to boast about is Him. All that really matters is that we are “in Christ.”

THINK ABOUT IT
Our true distinction from the world is that we cannot boast about anything we have done, but only what Jesus has done for us.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I rejoice in Jesus, my Savior. Through His sacrificial blood, I have been delivered out of the hand of the enemy—my life is secure in the hands of my Creator. My hope is anchored in the faithfulness of my Lord and Redeemer. In His name, amen.
