Identity Makes a Difference
Hebrews 11:24-25 (NIV®)
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
I enjoy the honesty of Scripture. It doesn’t lie and say there’s no pleasure in sin, because there is—it’s just short lived and eventually followed by painful consequences. We don’t know the details of Moses’ life in Pharaoh’s palace, but we can imagine how it was. No material thing or pleasure would have been beyond his reach, and some of those things would have been sinful. Moses chose to leave that life of pleasure behind, however, in order to identify himself with the people of God. That would have meant severing relationships with people he had associated with all his life and aligning himself with slaves who had served him all his life. Moses could have stayed in the palace, kept quiet, and enjoyed all the privileges his position afforded. But he chose to step out in faith and become the kind of person God could use to do great things.
THINK ABOUT IT
Is there a time when you stepped away from a “good thing” in order to obey God and follow Him into something new? What did you learn?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your provision for my life, making it possible to escape the seductions of this world system and partake in Your eternal Kingdom. I choose to give Jesus first place in my life and serve Him as Lord of my entire life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
