The Sole Authority
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV®)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I believe the Bible is inspired by God. I also believe God has given it to us so we can align our beliefs, attitudes, and actions with it. People have always attempted to pick the Scriptures apart and choose what they will believe, usually according to their personal preferences. But the Christian faith is unsustainable if it is arbitrary and unanchored, floating along according to what any one person or group wants to believe. It was written and assembled by ordinary people from varied cultures over a long period of time, but all that work was done under the direction and care of the Holy Spirit. Paul wanted to be sure Timothy understood that all of Scripture is useful as we train ourselves in righteousness and for service in God’s Kingdom. Like Paul, I encourage you to make God’s Word the sole authority for your life. It will never change, and it will never lead you astray.
THINK ABOUT IT
We want to make God’s Word central in our lives, giving it priority in our heart and with our time.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, may Your Word become an even greater living reality within me, bringing me a deeper revelation of who You are and transforming my life. I choose to yield to You, follow Your direction, and obey Your instruction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
