Set Your Heart & Mind
Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV®)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Several years ago, it was trendy for believers to wear jewelry or clothing with the question, “What Would Jesus Do?” or the letters WWJD. The trend has faded, but the question is still valid. Every one of us will have choices to make, day after day, about whether we will set our hearts and minds on the things of this world or the things of God. You see, our priorities will be determined in our hearts and minds long before they are shown in our actions. We may make what seems like a sudden decision, but we have set the stage and determined the momentum of our lives long before those moments come. Paul reminds us that because we have been “raised with Christ” and indeed “have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16), we should seek to think as Jesus thinks and act as He would act if He were faced with the same decision. Just ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?”
THINK ABOUT IT
Former British prime minister, Margaret Thatcher said, “Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by the traffic from both sides.” Decisions are opportunities to honor God. Honor Him with decisions informed by the truth of His Word.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for raising me up out of darkness to be seated with Christ. May my heart and mind be open to Your truth and my steps directed with boldness to follow my Lord. Grant me wisdom and courage to think and act as Jesus would. In His name, amen
