Power By Yielding
John 20:19-21 (NIV®)
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
Jesus’ original followers were changed by the three years they spent with Him, but more importantly, they were changed by the cross and the resurrection. They started with willing hearts but knew very little about the Kingdom of God. They stood in amazement at what they saw Jesus do, and they were invited to participate in some miraculous things. Jesus told them He would be betrayed and killed, but they still were so unprepared that His death broke them, and they lost their courage. Then, on the evening of Resurrection Day, Jesus stepped into the room—not a ravaged body, but a whole man—and they saw the power of God. From that point, they yielded their lives to His purposes with abandon and could not be deterred.
THINK ABOUT IT
The exhilaration the disciples felt when they saw Jesus was in response to the limitless power of God. Our God is mighty, He is powerful, and there is nothing He cannot do!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, what unimaginable joy Jesus’ followers must have felt when He stepped into the room! Until the day I see Him face to face, may I know and share the power of His resurrection so many will choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
