We Are Called to More
John 20:21-22 (NIV®)
Jesus
said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus’ disciples had seen Him hanging lifeless on a cross, and they knew His body had been buried in a nearby tomb. Now He had reappeared, very much alive. We can only imagine the jumble of emotions His friends felt—joy, certainly, but confusion as well. But amidst all that He had a very important message, one that He seemed eager to share: “I give you My peace, and it’s a peace greater than any you have ever known. I came to the earth on an assignment from My Father, and now I’m commissioning you to carry it on—and here is the Holy Spirit. He will enable you to do everything I’m calling you to do.” You see, we are called to more than making a profession of faith and then checking back in when we get to Heaven. We are called to serve the Lord during our days on the earth.
THINK ABOUT IT
Just as Jesus was sent, so are we. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we have everything we need to fulfill that assignment.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross. Only His shed blood provides me access to Your Kingdom and Your purposes. I receive the peace that comes only from Jesus, and I welcome Your Holy Spirit into my life. May His presence be more real to me today than ever before. In Jesus’ name, amen.
