Examining Our Motives & Actions
Ephesians 5:5-6 (NLT®)
You
can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the
Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater,
worshiping the things of this world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to
excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey
him.
Paul warns about engaging in immorality and impurity, but he puts greed in the same bucket. He then says being greedy makes us idolators! Remember that way back in the mountaintop meeting with Moses, God showed that He has a different view of greed. He warned against putting anything ahead of our devotion to Him, and He told us not to covet what belongs to our neighbor. When we are tempted to think that God really doesn’t understand how things work, remember this advice from Paul: “Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins.” Let’s examine our motives and actions regarding money and material things. Where they tend toward greed, let’s set them aside and trust the Lord for His provision.
THINK ABOUT IT
When we recognize all we are and that all we have has come from our Creator, we can more easily trust Him to provide all we will ever need.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to honor You with my heart and my resources. Help me to order my life in such a way that Your greatest blessings may come to me. I trust Your grace and faithfulness to meet all my needs. Holy Spirit, direct my path, and open my eyes so that I might never be deceived by things and forfeit God’s best. In Jesus’ name, amen.
