Listen for His Voice
Genesis 15:1 (NIV®)
The word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision.
Scripture tells of God conveying His messages to people in many diverse ways. In Genesis 12, God spoke to Abram directly—in this case, their conversation takes place in a vision. He appointed prophets to speak for Him, and He sent angelic messengers. He sent His Son not only to save us but to teach us. He sent the Holy Spirit to guide us. There have been just a few times when God has spoken to me in an audible way. But the overwhelming majority of the time, God speaks to me through the context of my life. He speaks through a conversation with a friend or through something I read in His Word. Sometimes, a thought will come into my head that I know did not originate with me and my intellect. God speaks into my life through all these ways, and His communication with me directs me and changes me in significant ways. I encourage you not to limit your imagination of how God will speak to you. Learn to listen for His voice and allow it to become part of the daily texture of your life.
THINK ABOUT IT
The most consistent necessity for God’s people in Scripture is learning to listen for and hear His voice.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, forgive me for when I have been preoccupied or unwilling to hear Your voice. I renew my commitment to listen with the intent to obey, and honor You with my life. Help me to have a receptive heart. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to guide me and give me understanding. In Jesus' name, amen.
