Life-Long Learners
Daniel 2:20-22 (NIV®)
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. … He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things.”
One of the maladies that affects religious people is that we want to believe we have mastered God. We think our denomination or tradition has it all figured out and is doing it right. So, we learn what we need to know to fit into that world and shut down. We draw a line in the sand and say, “Finished. Got it.” When that happens, we lose the seeking heart that leads to learning. We serve an infinite God. If you lived to be a thousand and learned something new about Him every day, there would still be more to learn on your last day than you had acquired during every year until that time. I invite you to imagine yourself awakening to a desire to know and understand the Lord in new ways. Ask Him to show you how to see the world through His eyes and your opportunities through His purposes. It will take courage, but the results will be spectacular.
THINK ABOUT IT
We have been encouraged from our youth to be life-long learners and to “learn something new every day.” This expression holds true for our Christian life. Let’s determine to be a life-long learner of God’s Word, and then watch your spiritual growth!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to know You more fully—Your character, Your purposes, all Your ways. Help me make the effort to be an excellent student of all You are and allow Your Holy Spirit to give me wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.
